Hey guys, Ruben here.
Today in class, Group 3 presented their article. After they finished there was still some time left, and Dr. Phillips decided to go over the way she wanted the synthesis paper for groups 3 and 4 to be.
She basically wants a ven diagram, in which we take the three articles and put unique points from each article in each circle, then, in the overlapping areas you put points that are similar from the articles. Outside of the ven diagram, she wanted us to put down some points that were different.
And that's pretty much all you missed, of course, the Synthesis paper for Group 2 is due before Monday (2/28), and the Ven Diagram for group 3 is due before the following Monday(3/7).
And, lastly, on Friday group 3 will be presenting their last article so be ready for that as well.

02/18/2011 Friday
On Friday we went over Group 2 last article and went over what past tense, present tense and perfect present citations was again. We took down notes and examples of these types of citations. If you were absent then ask someone for their notes on the types of citations. Dr. Phillips moved the date of the synthesis paper from Friday 2/18 to Sunday 2/20. You need to submit the paper through google documents like we have been doing for the articles. If you still don't know how to upload to google docs then refer to the previous blogs or email or call Dr. Phillips. Don't forget to read and take notes and particpate in class with Group 3 article.

Today we discussed the second article for group two, Tense Choices in Citations by Hawes. It was an in class grade to have read it, and if you were absent, I don't believe you can make it up. Dr. Phillips wrote notes on the board about past, present, and perfect present tense. If you were absent, you could ask someone if you could borrow the notes. Read last article for group two for Friday's class. Remember, it's an in class grade.

Our First Synthesis Paper
Our synthesis paper will consist of a three part outline of all the articles discussed for Student Voice.
Section I:
Section one will be the introduction that should include our own general thoughts on student voice as dicussed during the week.
Section II:
Section two will be the body of the paper that will include in-text citations. This will be taking specific points of each article, discuss them and give a page reference (also paraphrase or quote it). The body has to include our own thoughts not only citations which should be about 60% of our own analysis. Using sub-headings will be helpful to refocus the reader and emphasize your point.
Make comparisons between all articles, suggestions:
- Similar points, themes, messages, recommendations, challenges, issues, etc.
- Through your own perspective you can engage to say the things they didn't address
- From agreements and disagreements of all the articles
Section III:
Section three will be our conclusion were we reflect our own thoughts as a writer and describe how they relate to the main topic we discussed for the week.
